Next thing to do to market your business:
It is Imperative to Build a Media Kit
– The reason you want this is that it helps with your presence in the market and for people to know who you are.
– This is for branding and messaging as it helps to put into form as to what you do and how people can connect and relate to you.
– In your Media Kit, be sure to include your Business Mission Statement and the reason why you are in business (a brief synopsis as to the reason why you are in business)
– You want your Media Kit because when you submit press releases, when you submit invitations for you to be interviewed on the radio, when you submit invitations to become interviewed on television, when you send out emails marketing business, you will want to have back up documents to enable media to check you out to see if you are legitimate.
Components in Your Media Kit
1. Website – include your domain name and address, url to your website
2. Write down 10 questions about why you do what you do, what you do and what your business offers that is different and sets you apart and makes you better than other companies. You will then have prepared your answers so you can email or hand it to to a media representative in order for you to be interviewed. Everyone how has been interviewed has previously delivered the questions they are choosing to be asked for TV, Radio, Internet Radio, everywhere. Print out a hard copy and keep it in your glove box in your car. This equips and empowers yourself to what you want them to ask you. When you send out emails, you also want to have back up documentation to check you out to make sure you are legitimate.
3. Background information about yourself and your company – keep it short, just a couple of paragraphs at the most.
4. Fact Sheet – listing specific features, statistics or benefits of service. Example, if you save your client money 80% of the time, that is what you want to include on this fact sheet.
5. Biographies of Key executives, individuals or practitioners (1 paragraph each)
6. Past Press release coverage (if available). The media is always looking for new businesses to interview. You will be creating media events and you can take events that have happened in your area’s history and create a current media event in honor of, for example, the tsumani that happened a year ago. You will be blessing the community in honor. For all future, get a mp3 link, scan it and upload into your computer. Keep copy of all news stories and store in your computer.
7. Promotional Videos – please make them high resolution photos. You want them to look good. High resolution pictures of your company location, products, services, logos, pictures of you at your desk. Example: massage therapy – use a picture of someone getting a massage (make sure you get releases to use people’s photographs) Every year, back to school, Janeen’s Energy Medicine Clinic has a Media Event where they educate children and parents on how to wash their hands and wash door knobs, the arms on your office chairs. Keep promo pictures for your media kit. Hire a Videographer to video yourself. You can send to online magazines – make sure it is good quality, good lighting and stage it (pretend you are talking to a crowd dressed in your business suit)
8. Press Release Formats detailing the current news that the media is set in reference to. You will want press releases you can send in your kit to TV, Radio and Magazines.
9. Collarteral Advertising Material – anything in print – a postcard, a flyer, a newspaper ad that you have used. Scan it and upload electronically and save in your computer. You can email all your information to the Media when you need to.
10. Your social Media Links (facebook, you tube video links, and other social profiles, linked in).
