Graduate Call Notes: Open Forum

Thank you to everyone who participated in tonight’s call. I felt a great energy in the group that I might put under the category of excitement or enthusiasm coupled with inspiration and insight.

Thank you, Steph and Marcus, for asking about getting unstuck.   Some of the guidance offered here was in being present enough to realize when you are feeding what you don’t want.  By realizing that we are identifying with a challenging situation we immediately access a choice. Do we continue to feed what we don’t want unconsciously or do we surrender this point of view and exercise our will to feed what we want. For Steph and Marcus it was a matter of labeling the desired emotional payoff to experience in the realization of the goal; as clearly as possible. Once named, we can then contrast this feeling to the feelings being automatically generated from the unconscious reaction to what is. We all do this to some extent. Remember that we are developing a skill that has been primarily dormant in the masses of humanity for hundreds if not thousands of years.

This skill could be classified as the present moment awareness that engenders authentic choice. Another skill being cultivated here is authentic emotional intelligence.

Barbara had a big loss in her trading account and now she experiences fear as she attempts to trade. Obviously trading shares in the market is a viable way to supplement income but this fear is now creating hesitation and doubt. This hesitation and doubt is now getting in the way of successful trading.

For Barbara we talked about using the Freeze Frame Method from the Heart Math Institute.

Freeze Frame Technique:

Step 1: Recognize that you are experiencing a stressful moment.

Take a time out and freeze-frame it. Consider this a strategy similar to a team struggling on the basketball court to regroup. Don’t beat yourself up for feeling stress. The key here is to recognize it as well as the need to refocus it.

Step 2: Make a sincere effort to shift your attention away from your racing mind.

Move your focus to the area around your heart. Pretend you are breathing through your heart, keeping the focus there for at least 10 seconds. This shift of focus removes energy from your brain-based perception of the problem.

Step 3: Recall a positive, fun feeling or time you’ve had in life.

There are no restrictions on what you can think about. It can be anything. Whatever it is, remember how it felt. Remembering the feeling will connect you with your heart. The feeling is key; this is not about visualization.

Step 4: Ask your heart what would be a more efficient response to your current situation.

To ask your heart this question sincerely minimizes stress and brings wholeness. It allows your own intuition, common sense and sincerity to become more active and available.

Step 5: Listen to what your heart says is the answer to your question.

Just sit quietly, stay in your heart and wait. The result of this can be as if your heart talks to you, with a voice quite different than thoughts emanating from your brain.

Among the various conversations we had, these two stood out most significantly.  The principles outlined in the call were coming from an empowered point of view. All of us have access to this empowered point of view at any time. As we cultivate the habit of practicing these techniques from an empowered place we discover our authentic ability to more effectively create what we want. We have the ability already lets enjoy the process of making it a skill.

Thank you everyone for your attendance and participation.
