Selling on the Internet is becoming one of the great opportunities for individuals and small businesses. Few if any businesses can be started for a few dollars, easily learned, can be done from anywhere including home, and can generate large amounts of money. The Internet levels the playing field for you and me.
Following are a few of the little known ways to find great products to sell on the Internet; products that people want right now, today.
Word Tracker- www.freekeywords.wordtracker.com This is one of the great secrets of selling on the Internet. Word Tracker is a tool that shows what people are interested in and what they are searching for on the Internet. You can put in a word or phrase and it will give you a number of how many times that term or word is being searched for each day on Google.
If you want to sell a product on the Internet, this is where you learn the demand or what people want and are looking for. For example: if I like bicycling and I think I want to create an on-line business selling some kind of bicycle product, I go to Word Tracker, put in the word bicycle, and it will give me the number of searches per day that are being done for the word bicycle, but also how many searches are being done for the top 100 words or phrases such as tandem bicycles 9400 times, electric bikes 712, motorized bikes 764, bicycle jewelry 325, and bicycle posters.273.
The Word Tracker tool will not only tell you what people are interested in and are searching for, but it also gives you ideas for products you might want to sell. I use Word Tracker with each of my students to help them find a great product to sell.
The next tool that can be used by individuals to find great products to sell is the Time Magazine January 2009 issue of Inventions of the Year. Every year Time does an entire issue on the best inventions for that year. In it you can see a wide range of inventions that can give you great ideas of things you might want to sell. An example is the guy who invented and sold “green pizza boxes.” Simple yes, a money maker, yes. What could you make out of environmentally safe materials and sell on the Internet.
Trade magazines- In addition to idea generators like Time magazine, you can learn what the newest and hottest products are that are about to be launched into the market place. Every industry has a magazine that is written for the professionals in that industry such as the cosmetic or the pizza industries. If you go to Goggle and do a search for the industry and its national association publication, you will find their trade magazine. For example the beverage industry. I can read in every issue about the new drinks, flavored waters, juices, energy drinks will be coming out. You might be able to get the rights to market one of the new beverages on the Internet.
EBay is another good place to find out what people are interested in. Google has a section called, “What’s Hot.” It will give the top ten products that are searched for in every major category. For example, in sporting goods the number one searched for product is golf clubs followed by kayaks and road bikes. If you wanted to find a product for which there is a huge demand, “What’s Hot” is the place to find it.
Finally there is Google. Google knows everything! Do a Google search for trends for the next 10 years. What are they? Where will they create opportunities for selling new products? Anything that can be sold is being sold on the Internet. You just want to find the products people want most and sell those.
