Graduate Call Notes 2-18-14: Mastermind

On this week’s call about “Mastermind” we had some great goals come up and some great feedback.  One of the benefits of being a part of a mastermind group is that a mastermind can help you see what you do not see.  It is true that often it is what we cannot see or what we are not aware of is what will hurt us.  Having others bring their experience and knowledge to the group is an invaluable resources.  In this week’s call we had a student that was thinking about investing in a gas station.  Each member asked questions about the viability of the investment.  It was also interesting to note different participant’s reactions to the feedback from others in the group.  I noticed that there were a few students that had a hard time accepting any constructive criticism.  Humility is a key ingredient to run a successful mastermind group.  The know it all attitude does not work in a mastermind setting.  One question that was particularly good that one member asked another was, “what age are the underground gas tanks?”  She had to admit that she did not know.  By having others poke holes in your logic it will strengthen your argument for why you should or should not make an investment.  The other key piece of running a mastermind is that you can be held accountable for taking action by a group of your peers.  If you would like to start your own mastermind, www.meetup .com is a great place to start.
