Performance Reviews

One of the most complex things a manager has to do is to manage the performance of subordinates.  If you are a business owner without alot of management experience this may be both akward and unclear for you the first couple of times out of the gate.

Here are some suggestions from Ken Blanchard’s best-selling book The One Minute Manager:

  • Agree on your goals
  • See what good behavior looks like
  • Write out each of your goals on a single sheet of paper using less than 250 words
  • Read and re-read each goal, which requires only a minute or so each time you do it
  • Take a minute every once in awhile out of your day to look at your performance, and
  • See whether or not your behavior matches your goal

Those are some ideas directly from one of the chapters. I think this book in particular offers some excellent ideas about performance management of your employees whether you are an executive or a large corporation or a business owner of a small operation.  Goal and performance management are essential in getting the results and behavior you need and want.
