Forex Graduate Call Notes 9-23-14: Broker Considerations

The news about FXCM purchasing the MT4 accounts from IBFX has left many wondering the impact on their accounts. We now know the impact on those with an MT4 demo account with IBFX. For those that were not paying attention, IBFX sent out a notice on their Mailboxconcerning the change. When in the MT4 platform, you can access the Mailbox from the Terminal window. Just click on the Mailbox tab.

On the 15th of September, an email titled “Important information regarding IBFX Demo Accounts” was sent. The email stated:

Dear Demo Account Holder,

IBFX has made the business decision to discontinue support of MT4. Therefore, effective at market close today, Friday, September 19, 2014 all IBFX demo accounts will be disabled and you will no longer be able to login.

Please note that this should not affect any expert advisors or custom indicators you may have installed on your computer.

Sincerely yours,
The IBFX Team

When you access your demo account, you will not be able to place trades or see trade history. You also will not be able to see any current quotes past the close on Friday the 19th. You can still see historical price movement on the different pairs but nothing current.

You need to download a new MT4 platform from FXCM http://help.fxcm.com/Software-Download/MetaTrader-4/38756888/Download-MetaTrader-4-for-Windows.htm

Before downloading the new MT4 platform, you want to make sure to uninstall the previous version.  On Windows, click “Start”, then “Control Panel.”  Select “Add or Remove Programs” or “Uninstall a Program.”  Right click on “IBFX MetaTrader 4” and confirm by clicking “Yes.”  Click “Finish” to complete.

Since this is a complete new installation, you will need to reconfigure any templates.  You are starting fresh again. You may want to check your templates and settings on indicators before you permanently remove your IBFX MT4 platform.
