eBay Graduate Call Notes 9-10-14: eBay Stores

Today I want to point out some very important facts about eBay stores. Most people think that is it a must to start a store as soon as they start selling things on eBay, this is really far from the truth. You should really ask yourself some questions before choosing to pay $16.00 extra each month. Do you have any items that you are selling repeatedly and can have a constant inventory? Do you have 10 to 15 items that sell on a regular basis? If you can answer yes to these questions it may be a very good time to start opening an eBay store.

To setup an eBay store go to http://stores.ebay.com then on the right click on open a store, then you have 3 different types of stores to work with a Basic store at $15.95 a month and up to 150 free listings per month, a premium store at $49.95 a month and up to 500 free listings per month,and a Anchor store at $179.95 a month and up to 2500 free listings per month.

eBay stores can really help you with saving money on fees. The biggest fee that you will see change is your listing fee. Each item is 0.02 plus gallery picture 0.01 = 0.03 cents 10 items with gallery pictures = 30 cents 100 items with gallery pictures = $3.00 1000 items with gallery pictures = $ 30.00.

One of the biggest reasons that people often times like to create an eBay store is because of the fact that it will start to rank on Google. eBay stores are the only type of listing this is ranked on eBay. Your eBay store will become it’s own website with a sub domain name of stores.ebay.com/yourstore.

For all intents and purposes an eBay stores functions the same way and an eCommercre store.

Adding a product to an eBay store is the same as an auction or fixed priced listing but make sure to have that the type of listing is an eBay store listing.

Adding a logo and changing your theme to your eBay store.
1. On the left under Store Design, click Display Settings.
2. To the right of the header that says Basic Information, click Change.
3. Scroll down to the Store Logo Section or Theme setting section
4. Choose the 4th Option: Use my own logo located at the following URL:
5. Click the radio button next to this option and enter the URL for your logo.
6. Click Save Settings.
7. You should now be returned to the Display Settings page where you will see your new logo.
8. Click on the red door icon next to your eBay User ID. You should now see your logo displayed on your store.

Changing the Store Description, Store Categories, Custom Pages, and Keywords in the eBay Store.

1) Click on MyeBay
2) Click on Manage my store
3) On the left under Store Designs click on Display Settings.
Then select the section you want to make changes to.

There are 4 major ways I suggest marketing your eBay store.
1) Store description, you wan the store description to be around 25 words long, written in a sentence format and contain around 3 major keyword phrases.
2) Category names, you want make sure you are putting in major keyword phrases for the name and example is if you are selling camping supplies rather then saying “tents” as a category a better keyword phrase would be to say “Colman Camping Tents”
3) Custom Pages, you can create custom pages such as an about us page, contact us page, policy page in which you can add keyword phrases to.
4) SEO Keyword, you have an area in which you can add up to 7 keyword phrases for each of your pages. The storefront page is your home page and the keyword phrases relate to the overall store. Whereas the category pages you want the keyword phrases to relate to the specific category. You will want to have around 3% saturation of your keywords on the site.

Make sure to use buyer incentives to get people come back to your store on a regular basis.

Use Auction as a way to market the eBay store.

eBay guides is a great way to market to people outside of eBay. With eBay guides you are writing articles on eBay. These articles are consider dynamic (changing) content to Google and Google likes dynamic content meaning it is a very quick way to show up on the first page of Google.

These are all great reasons that you should open an eBay store but I would always suggest talking with your coach to make sure that you are ready.
